Overview

New Zealand rock band HANGAR 18 originally formed in 1995 in Auckland, New Zealand. The members of the band were formed by a Kiwi, an ex-pat UK resident of New Zealand, and a newly arrived UK member. Their debut album “Grey Area” was released in 1997 and became hugely successful in the Asian markets, mainly in the Philippines, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

HANGAR 18 have toured throughout their career, performing with acts such as:

They also performed at “The Unity Music Festival” in Hong Kong, coinciding with the end of British rule in Hong Kong. At this festival, HANGAR 18 performed alongside:

  • Grace Jones (JA)
  • Boy George (UK)
  • Gene (UK)

This show saw HANGAR 18 perform live in front of 10,000 fans in the stadium, and it was screened/simulcast on live TV to over 680 million people on Channel V & CCTV and to over 1.1 billion people worldwide.

Recent Developments

HANGAR 18 reformed last year after a 16-year hiatus and began writing new material for their sophomore album, which is yet to be titled. The reformed band leveraged their vast experience and contacts, with the new single IDKY being co-written with renowned Kiwi artist Jason Kerrison, who is the lead singer/songwriter of the multi-platinum selling band Opshop.

The current lineup of HANGAR 18 features:

They have been writing new material for a forthcoming album. Their new single, IDKY, was recorded at Show Pony Studios in Auckland and mixed in Brisbane, Australia at Red Engine Studios by ARIA Award winning and Grammy nominee producer Steve James (known for his work with Sex Pistols, Monty Python, The Screaming Jets, The Rumjacks).

Upcoming Tours

HANGAR 18 have opened for the legendary USA rockers Everclear on their previous two New Zealand tours and will join Everclear again on their forthcoming Australia and New Zealand tours later this year. In addition, HANGAR 18 will embark on their own IDKY tour in support of the new single, performing shows in New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and China.
